Fence

Site-specific installation, Copenhagen, 2006

Remix the world

A fence was set up across a main shopping street in Copenhagen. In the middle of the Saturday shopping rush hour, the people in the street only had access through a narrow passageway in the middle of the fence, often creating an accumulation of people, bound to queue up in order to pursuit their shopping needs. The fence created a minor obstacle in the everyday live, an obstacle that really shouldn’t create such a great deal of frustration compared to other similar fences and walls around the world. The fence was a test of the prejudice of the Danish mentality, enhancing the notion of a people so self absorbed that the connotations of this fence, cutting through their everyday live, is dimmed by the straight out frustration of being slightly hindered in their Saturday shopping zone.
